Do you think people should turn around and face those that are speaking to you?

I have been taught that when someone is addressing me and my back is turned to turn around and face them to let them know I am listening. I have a friend that never turns around when someone is talking to them. Why is that?

your friend is either really shy or do not like those people who are talking to her. But I think she is just a shya nd unsociable. Just get her to become more comfortable to those talking to her.

I don’t know your why your friend does that .. only your friend knows .. but it is good manners to face the one who is talking to you .. and it is bad manners and disrespect to not turn around and talk with the person face to face.

He/She prolly feels really shy, maybe the best thing would be to ask him/her.

It’s nice, IF there’s no particular reason not to. But if the person I was talking to was, for instance, transplanting orchids, I wouldn’t insist they completely stop what they were doing in order to look at me.

Incidentally: Have you *asked* your friend why her (or his) idea of politeness is different than yours? It could be ethnic, being from a different country than yours, being from a different part of your own country, etc. Or they could be just terminally nerdy and/or borderline autistic, like me! He (or she) might be grateful to have this particular "rule" pointed out to them so they can apply it when they want to.
