How is Will Hunting a hero to his friends?

How is Will Hunting from Good Will Hunting a hero, in anyway, to his friends.

In my opinion, he is because I think he represents success to them. I think he represents success to them because he’s so intelligent and they(especially Ben Affleck’s character) feel like he will be able to accomplish things tat they won’t ever accomplish.
