What is the fastest speed you have ever experienced on the Autobahn, Motorway, Autostrada, or, Freeway?

Posted on January 19th, 2010 by admin in faster than the speed of night |

What type of car, and, at what time of the day, or, night? Were you the driver, or, a petrified passenger?

120mph in a - wait for it - Volvo estate. On the M1 as well!

I should stress that I wasn’t driving, we were going downhill (excellent visibility), the road was clear and dry and we had just cleared a block of traffic.

I would never let anyone I’m in a car with drive at a speed I believe they are incapable of maintaining safely, including myself.

Around 120 MPH in a souped up Austin Healey 3000.
We did Haverfordwest to London in about 5-6 hours, this was before the motorways were built mind you. It was night and it was fun, I was a passenger.

had 140mph on the speedo of nissan 200sx, driving thru the nite from aberdeen to london for Guns N Roses concert in the late 80’s. got overtaken once on the way down, by a bloke on a K1 BMW bike, with a passenger on the back, think we were doing about 135 at the time and the road was a bit damp, i thought we were mad. way back up the road bloke in a 500 SL merc blew us away as soon as we hit the motorway, after a good blast thru some twistys. never felt scared, car was remarkably stable, loved that car amazingly quick for a 1.8, and rear wheel drive such a hoot

Down a lonnnnng hill, in a rental car (always the worlds’ fastest!) over 145mph to get the ferry back from the French F1 Grand-Prix in 1995.

And for an average (speed-cameras would stop you doing this today) I got back to my house from Ilfracoombe, some 182 miles, in 1 hr 57 mins some years back, in the tuned Opel Ascona I had then. About 93mph as an average, and some 35 miles of that was on narrow roads at about 70mph. It drank a tank of fuel!

Having been in germany in 2005 I had the opportunity to drive a Bugatti Veyron on the A 80 to A 89 in Baden to Württemberg. at one point I had it up to near top speed at about 152 MPH it was mid day sunny and roads dry.

The handling of the car was absolutely incredible.

I hate to disapoint some of you but other than a few motorcycles the fastest production automobile is the Bugatti Veyron at 155 Mph so those of you in cars I don’t think so
